I wanted to take this opportunity to say how excited my family and I are to become a part of the Mason-Lake & Oceana Intermediate School District, and to help with the start-up of the Academy of Science, Math, and Technology Early College (ASM Tech). We chose to move to Western Michigan in part for the beauty, the lake, and the friendly people; but also because of the education that we could provide the children of this community, including our three daughters.
ASM Tech was created with the Vision to provide “A chance at college for some who otherwise may not.” However, our goal is to prepare students not just for a chance at college, but for academic success while in college. ASM Tech will offer a high school diploma and two years of college credits to students who are interested in Science, Math, Engineering, and Technology (STEM) careers living in Mason, Lake, Oceana, and Manistee counties.
To achieve our goals of increasing college participation AND college successes, we must work together as a community. Mason-Lake & Ocean ISD and West Shore Community College share a rich tradition of providing college experiences for high school students through their CTE/Technical Preparation partnership and the Dual Enrollment program. ASM Tech will be expanding on that tradition by creating even more opportunities for students. We will also be partnering with local businesses to provide work-based learning experiences for our students, and we will be partnering with our families to meet the needs of both students and parents as they transition from high school to college.
I encourage each of you to learn more about ASM Tech, and how we are helping our students and our community,
Ethan Hurley
Dean of Students ASM Tech Early College
